Blue gums (Eucalyptus globulus and friends) were planted across the Highveld a century ago for mining timber. They're now classified as Category 2 invasive aliens under NEM:BA.
Why removal is usually necessary
- They drink an enormous amount of groundwater
- Their shallow roots crack walls, paving and foundations
- Branches are notoriously brittle and drop without warning
- They burn ferociously — a serious fire risk
What's involved
A mature blue gum can reach 30+ metres and weigh 15 tons. We section-fell from the top down using a climber and rigging, then process at ground level. Typical job: R6,500 – R15,000 depending on access.
